A successfully settled loan becomes part of the account's repayment history.
Close the obligation clearly. Build history responsibly.
Stelo's intended repayment flow keeps the loan record and M-Pesa payment state connected. A successful payment should be confirmed before the obligation is treated as settled.
From an active obligation to a confirmed repayment.
The precise app screen can change, but the financial state transition should remain explicit.
- 01
Open the active obligation
Review the loan amount, current outstanding obligation and repayment information shown in your account.
- 02
Initiate M-Pesa repayment
Use the supported M-Pesa flow, including STK Push where available, to start the payment for the relevant obligation.
- 03
Wait for the payment result
Sending an STK prompt or starting a payment does not prove success. Stelo should wait for the authoritative M-Pesa result.
- 04
Apply the confirmed payment
Once the successful transaction is confirmed, apply it to the correct loan obligation and update the remaining balance or settlement state.
- 05
Reflect the repayment in history
The resulting repayment behaviour can become part of future profile and eligibility reviews without promising an automatic limit increase.
“Prompt sent” should never be treated as “loan paid.”
Keeping payment states separate prevents false settlement and makes the customer experience more reliable when a phone prompt is cancelled, times out or fails.
Repayment initiated. The customer has started the M-Pesa flow, but no success has been confirmed yet.
Awaiting outcome. The system is waiting for the authoritative transaction result or callback.
Apply to the loan. A confirmed payment can be posted against the correct obligation.
Leave the obligation unchanged. A cancelled or failed payment must not be counted as money received.
Repayment becomes evidence for the next review—not a guaranteed reward.
How an obligation is serviced over time can strengthen or weaken the financial history Stelo considers later. Future capacity should still reflect the customer's full current financial position.
How the Credit Profile worksResponsible servicing can support confidence during a future profile review.
A completed loan does not guarantee a larger next limit or another approval.
The loan record and the cash rail have different jobs.
Stelo can track balances, repayment state and credit history without behaving like a general-purpose wallet from which customers withdraw loan funds. Approved disbursement and repayment are designed around M-Pesa.
Stelo records what is owed and what has been confirmed. M-Pesa handles the intended movement of funds in and out of the lending flow.
Know when a repayment is actually complete.
Your live loan record and confirmed payment state remain authoritative for your account.
How do I repay a Stelo loan?
Stelo repayments are designed to use M-Pesa, including STK Push flows where supported by the production integration.
If an STK prompt appears, is the loan already paid?
No. A prompt is only the start of the payment attempt. The loan should be updated only after the successful M-Pesa result is confirmed.
Does a successful repayment guarantee a higher limit?
No. Responsible repayment can contribute to future profile confidence, but the next eligibility and limit review still considers your current financial position and applicable controls.
Does Stelo require a customer withdrawal wallet?
No general-purpose customer withdrawal wallet is required for the intended lending flow. Stelo tracks the loan while M-Pesa handles the intended cash movement.
